A smart passive MR damper with a hybrid powering system for impact mitigation: An experimental study

This paper presents a smart passive MR damper with fast-responsive characteristics for impact mitigation. The hybrid powering system of the damper, composed batteries and self-powering component, enables damping to be negatively proportional velocity, which is called rate-dependent softening effect. effect can keep force as maximum allowable constant under different speed thus improve efficiency shock energy structure, prototype working principle new are presented firstly. Then vibration platform was used characterize dynamic property capability damper. mitigation performance evaluated using drop hammer compared comparison results demonstrate that generated by over large range velocity while cannot. special its dissipation wide occupants mechanical structures safe.
